Jablonski prepared for "Night to Consider" with Wild

Jack Jablonski is decided to turn a terrible event in his life right into reasons to believe in miracles.

It was nearly 3 years back, in December 2011, when the then-sophomore was hit from behind while playing ice hockey for Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School against Wayzata High during a match at a holiday tournament in St. Louis Park, Minn.

The check shoved him right up against the boards and left Jablonski motionless on the ice. Following a 2 1/2-hour operation five days after, it was discovered he’d kept up a severed spinal cord in the neck. He was paralyzed from the chest down, and physicians felt at that time that it might require a miracle for Jablonski to regain full utilization of his arms and legs.

Unmasked: Oilers" Scrivens has mask using a message

Just ceasing pucks is not enough for Ben Scrivens.

Scrivens sees his situation as a goaltender for the Edmonton Oilers as an opportunity and an obligation to do more. So he’s giving his name and his mask to boost consciousness and resources for mental health generally, as well as the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta specifically.

Scrivens has began Ben’s Netminders, an application that can turn his mask right into a canvas for four Edmonton-area artists identified as having schizophrenia. Scrivens is raising consciousness by wearing the initial mask, according to a painting by Richard Boulet. The fundraising will come when the game-worn masks are put up for auction, but more significant is giving a voice to those that frequently are marginalized.

Fantasy Spin: Replacing Bruins" Krug in short term

The dominoes continue to drop to the Boston Bruins defense as Torey Krug is likely to miss 2-3 weeks using a busted finger. This harm further depletes the Bruins top power play unit and dream blue lines around the world.

With Krug (96 percent possessed in Yahoo leagues) joining teammate Zdeno Chara to the injury list, fantasy owners should stash the 23-year old in a IR slot to check out a short term replacement.

It Is tough to cover all of Krug’s strengths (points, power play points, shots on goal, plus-minus) with one waiver-wire pick-up, but you could easily locate accessible defensemen who will help your team stay afloat in at least one of these areas. Taking league depth into accounts, below are a few alternatives:

ARLINGTON, Va. — Midway through a first period power play from the Edmonton Oilers last Wednesday, Washington Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom considered his choices.

Near the best half-wall where he orchestrates the Capitals power play, Backstrom’s stick blade danced round the puck before he settled on defenseman John Carlson, who had been lurking in the high place along with his stick cocked.

Backstrom fell an effortless pass in Carlson’s way, as well as the defenseman fired the puck past Edmonton goaltender Ben Scrivens to tie the match 1-1.
