PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will play Tuesday, as expected, a day after it had been declared he’d get surgery to get rid of a tumour from his neck.
Maatta skated in his regular pairing with defenseman Kris Letang and will most likely stay there during the Penguins next three matches, staring Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils. His operation is scheduled for next week, when Pittsburgh starts a road trip, and is likely to keep him from the lineup for four weeks.
The Penguins responded to Maatta’s state for the very first time Tuesday. Several players noted on Maatta’s adulthood, including Letang, who faced a health panic when he had a stroke last January.
